How to organise a successful kick-off!

kick-off in stavanger

Collaborative activities are ideal when organising a kick-off at work.

It's best to choose tasks that challenge participants to think outside the box.

"Fangene på Fortet" is an activity centre inspired by the TV programme of the same name.

-"Here, the participants have to solve tasks to progress through different rooms, while collecting points along the way," says Albert Buli, general manager of Fangene på Fortet.

The tasks can be physically, technically and strategically demanding, but they have one thing in common.

- To succeed, everyone on the team needs to work together," he says.

Here are six factors that should be in place for a successful kick-off:

Team spirit in focus

Collaboration is a key factor for success, both in the workplace and at Fangene på Fortet.

- With us, everyone contributes to solving the tasks. Some give advice and cheer on the team, while others take care of the specific tasks. The teams consist of 3-5 people, and the winner is the team that manages to collect the most points in the given time," explains Buli.

Each team chooses whether to spend one and a half, two or two and a half hours on the tasks.

Full package in one place

A successful work event often has several elements, and the best thing is when everything can take place in the same place, including meetings, catering and socialising.

- At Fangene på Fortet, we offer meeting rooms that can accommodate anything from three to 120 people, and we serve both lunch and dinner. A lot of our good feedback comes from the fact that everything happens in one place," says Buli.

Creativity and energy in free flow

New projects require creative solutions, and the 45 cells at Fangene på Fortet are a great outlet for creativity.

- At the same time, the participants get to use a lot of energy if they want to. Each group can choose whether they want to focus on physical cells, tasks that require thinking, or creative challenges - or a combination of these," says Buli.

Joy and togetherness

Having fun together and experiencing something out of the ordinary strengthens both the working environment and productivity.

- It's rewarding to feel the stress and then laugh together afterwards. After the round through the cells, all the teams receive a printout with their results. It's a great opportunity to sit down, have a drink and discuss how the team performed," says Buli.

Serving that enhances the experience

Good food and drink are essential for a successful kick-off. We've got lots of great pizza, lunch food and drinks.

Room for all types of businesses

Finding a programme that suits businesses of all sizes can be a challenge, but it is possible.

- Of the 100,000 visitors we have every year, about 70 per cent are from companies. Some days we have a small department with four people, while other days we can welcome an entire company with up to 240 people," explains Buli.

If the group is small, they can compete against other teams that are there at the same time. If the group is large, some can relax with a drink while others start on their tasks. When all the cells are in use, we have room for 120 people at the same time.
